New Bill Targets Mud Bogging, Interface Fires — A new Forests and Range Statutes Amendment Act, 2007 (2007 Bill 18) was introduced this month and is intended to reduce the risk of forest fires and protect sensitive areas from damage caused by ATVs and other 4-wheel drive vehicles. Local tourism development supported — Amendments to existing legislation will provide funding to support local tourism development through the new Resort Municipality Revenue Sharing Program, as well as streamline other local government procedures, it was recently announced. The Community Services Statutes Amendment Act 2007 (2007 Bill 11) addresses the fact that resort-oriented municipalities have unique and extraordinary demands in the areas of visitor services, marketing and infrastructure. Under this legislation, qualifying municipalities can participate in a new resort municipality revenue-sharing program valued at approximately $10 million annually. See News Release or 2007 Bill 11.
