BILL M218 – 2024 BRITISH COLUMBIA TRANSIT AMENDMENT ACT, 2024
HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of
the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as
follows:
1 Section 25 of the British Columbia Transit Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 38, is amended
(a) by adding the following subsections:
(2.1) A regional transit commission established by the
authority to represent transit service areas for the following
municipalities and regional districts must be known as the regional
transit commission for the Sea to Sky Corridor area:
(a) District of Squamish;
(b) Resort Municipality of Whistler;
(c) Village of Pemberton;
(d) Squamish-Lillooet Regional District Electoral Areas C and D. ;
(4.1) Notwithstanding subsection (4), the regional
transit commission for the Sea to Sky Corridor area referred to in
subsection (2.1) must consist of not fewer than 7 members appointed by
the Lieutenant Governor in Council from among persons holding elected
office on the following:
(a) District of Squamish Council;
(b) Líĺwat Nation Council;
(c) Resort Municipality of Whistler Council;
(d) Squamish Nation Council;
(e) Squamish-Lillooet Regional District Board;
(f) Village of Pemberton Council. , and
(b) by repealing and substituting the following subsection:
(9) If a person appointed under this section ceases to
hold elected office as required by subsection (3), (4) or (4.1), the
person’s appointment under this section is terminated.
Commencement
2 This Act comes into force on the date of Royal Assent.
Explanatory Note
CLAUSE 1: [British Columbia Transit Act, section 25]
- provides for the regional transit commission for the Sea to Sky Corridor area;
- provides for the composition of the regional transit commission for
the Sea to Sky Corridor area as an exception to the composition of a
regional transit commission set out in subsection (4);
- makes a consequential amendment relating to the effect of persons ceasing to hold office.
